(Reporter Shen Guocheng Ke Pengcan) On the afternoon of June 10th, the 2022 Mental Health Joint Meeting of the School of Politics and International Studies was held in Conference Room 213, Building 2, International Cultural Communication Park. Li Diao, Deputy Minister of Office of Student Affairs of the Party Committee and Director of Ideological and Political Office, Yu Haijun, Professor of Mental Health Education Center, Hu Zongshan, Dean of School of Politics and International Studies, Wang Jianguo and Huang Huixiang, Deputy Deans of School of Politics and International Studies, all of the counselors, representatives of head teachers and tutors attended the meeting. The conference was chaired by Pan Guangwei, Deputy Secretary of the School Party Committee.
Dean Hu Zongshan thanked the Office of Student Affairs and the Mental Health Education Center’s huge support for the students’ mental health work of the college. He pointed out that the college would continue to attach great importance to psychological work and hoped to acquire more policy and technical support from the school.
The school mental health work liaison Shen Guocheng reported the developing situation of the school mental health education work in the last year. The college insists the participation of the entire people in mental health work, differentiated and accurate assistance, the emphasis on communication between family and school, the norm of system management and so on. Due to this, there were no serious safety accidents all year round. With regard to the mental health education work in the future, he wished the school could offer support in medical treatment, consultation and personnel so as to provide students with education with high quality and warmth practically.
Representatives of counselors, head teachers and tutors of each grade respectively reported their work. The teachers present sufficiently communicated and discussed the key points and difficult points in mental health education work.
Yu Haijun, Professor of Mental Health Education Center, afforded professional answers to problems submitted by teachers related to mental health education work one by one, then he put forward many pertinent suggestions. He mentioned that mental health problem is a general issue in the contemporary world, we should adhere to treat the problem with a normal heart, treat every student with an attitude of deference and inclusiveness, stick to the work boundary and help students with difficulties.
Li Diao, Deputy Minister of Office of Student Affairs of the Party Committee and Director of Ideological and Political Office, affirmed the work of the college, at the same time, came up with the next work demand: First, unify concepts, the college leaderships and teachers should pay highly attention to students’ mental health, keep the bottom line and guarantee the stability of security; Second, the entire personnel cooperate, dominated by the team of student affairs, they should fully exert the collaboration of head teachers and tutors, after that, the education resultant force could be formed; Third, implement the details, they should focus on the students in need of additional attention, arrange specialized staff follow up with the students’ situation, make strategies for each student and defuse crisis event in time.
For the key and difficult points of work raised in the meeting, the leaderships declared that they would convoke theme sessions to further ascertain and solve the dilemma at this stage as well as guard the bottom line of the students’ safety.
