Convergent Media Center of College of Education Report On May 9th, the 35th “Cultivating Talents Cup” Art and Culture Festival of CCNU -- The First Session of the Future Teachers’ Aesthetic Education Quality Salon was held online. Professor Shen Guochang, the Executive Dean of Institute for Educational Governence Studies of CCNU and Vice President of Chinese Society for Tao Xingzhi Studies, made a report titled “Youth·Study·Aesthetic”. The whole normal students of Grad 2021 and 2020 of College of Education participated in this event. Secretary of the College Committee Liu Yaxin chaired the activity.
Professor Shen Guochang entered the theme from the "May Fourth Movement" Spirit of “Patriotism, Progress, Democracy, Science”, then elaborated the realizing path of in-depth study and improvement of aesthetics for the youth from four aspects of life planning, academic attitude, exploration persistence and aesthetics interest. He emphasized significant value of making a good life planning and determining academic goals in the life development of the youth, in the meanwhile, he pointed out that establishing clear cognition and taking reasonable orientation were indispensable steps in goal programming. Through narrating the stories of Tao Xingzhi and Hu Shi who changed their careers several times and ultimately ascertained their life cause, Professor Shen mentioned the necessity of flexibility in setting academic objectives.
Professor Shen Guochang indicated that scholars should take up a correct academic attitude of sureness, rigour and modesty, besides, they need to master the academic methods of combining broadness and professionalism, attaching coordinate importance to learning and thinking, being good at reading and writing, paying attention to practice. With quoting loads of references, he proposed that educators should combine theoretical study with practical exploration, and extend their vision of scholarship from books to life so as to make students realize the emphasis of pursuing exploration and long-term perseverance more clearly. Professor guided the students present to recognize the functions, methods and values of aesthetic education, thus they could cultivate morality, enlighten wisdom as well as benefit heart with beauty to practically enhance their ability of aesthetics and achieving artistic life.
After the report, Professor Shen Guochang answered the questions raised by the students, and put forward effective proposals and important perspectives towards the aesthetics education of college students in daily life and professional development. He reminded the students of cherishing the youth, properly understanding that the aesthetic education refers to many fields, constantly identifying and creating beauty, simultaneously, doing academic research rigorously, finally sticking to the “teacher’s principle” in “aesthetic art”.
This activity assisted the students in appropriately grasping the theoretical connotation and epochal values of aesthetic education. It was also beneficial for our college students to correct academic attitude, make full use of aesthetic education, and profoundly comprehend the significance of aesthetic education for the youth in academic study and life of chasing beauty.
